You're going where to do what with whom?

On Friday I will head to Philadelphia for the Buyers Market of American Craft wholesale show. This is a first for me and I am so fortunate to go on this adventure with four of the most talented, funniest, kindest and amazing artists from the Etsy Metal Clay Team. (Yeah, we blog - so this will be cross posted at the team blog.) The EMC Team is a juried group of artists that host their shops on Etsy and when I look at their incredible work I kind of gasp and wonder aloud who accidentally clicked "accept" when my work was in front of the group.  Nevertheless, the team was invited to apply for the Buyers Market and given a most favorable rate on a booth. (Buyers, come see us in booth #827!) I believe this is what author/adventurer Tilar Mazzeo was referring to when she gave my my new favorite phrase "The serendipity of brazenness." This event and weekend and entire hoopty do is my definition of that phrase.

I'll be traveling with, in alphabetical order, Dina Alexander  (2008 Saul Bell Award winner Dina Alexander!) Lis-el Crowley - you should totally visit the Art & Soul Gallery in Windsor, Connecticut and take a class. Janice Doner of Destiny's Creations - a girl after my own heart with a blog and a day job and a passion for silver. The fifth member of our group is Christine Street of Chocolate and Steel (another blogging girl!)

We are totally off on a craft camp-pick up the tequila-where are my garterbelts-kind of long weekend as we show our wares to top jewelry and gift store buyers as well as gallery owners. Who knows what will happen (don't 'tase me bro!) this weekend - but one thing I know is that it will be fabulous to spend a weekend with artists that I admire so much.

Here are a few new designs I'm bringing with me to Philly - appearing in my Etsy shop soon!

The Om Heart Pendant
The India Dot Ring
Two Paisley Pendants
The India Earrings (freshly made - but on the site for a few weeks now!)
The Good Twin/Evil Twin two-sided pendant. You know who you are EVIL TWINS!
From my brand new Woof-Purr-Tweet collection; hand-carved designs made this week!

Montana Thus Far

For the past 17 years Tom and I have visited Squam Lake in New Hampshire with friends. This year those friends decided the summer trip should be to Swan Lake near Bigfork, Montana. I am grateful to the Bigfork Public Library for the wifi service - because I got nothing at the house on the lake. No cel signal, no TV signal - nada. Just a book, a beverage and some peace and quiet. Here are some photos and descriptions of the trip thus far.

Swan Lake, facing west(ish) at 9:20pm. Yeah, it stays light late.

At the entry gate to the property. Bostonians are never shy about their Red Sox. Never ever.

There is a small baseball diamond on the property, appropriately named.

At the Beer Garden Bar. Population: Drunk.

One of my favorite stops on any vacation - the local grocery store where we found "One Whole Chicken in a Can (without giblets.) Question: What do you think it looks like? Didn't buy...

This is Bounder the deer. I gave her white bread because the caretaker on the property showed me how to feed her. She is a wild deer, but very much protected on this property.

Barn kitteh!
More barn kittehs!
They take fire protection in the mountains very seriously.

Planning to play croquet this evening. Wonder how I'll do with a margarita in one hand and a mallet in the other.

Tom would never abide an antler chandelier, but posing with the sign - sure. Kinda.

Local sense of humor: "Sake to Me Sushi" - love it.

Eva Gates Homemade Preserves. I am told that Eva was the aunt of Evil Knievel. That's cool, but I must say she makes the best Huckleberry jam I ever tasted. (This is actually my first taste.)

Plotting the next day's route on the map: Tom, Harold and Watson.

I thought Maud would enjoy this little Boston Terrier bookend. I took this photo just for her.

Laksmi IV (FOUR)

The Lakshmi IV (Four) is available on Etsy (as of this writing.) Turquoise, Cream Quartz, Coral Mountain Jade, Red Coral and wooden beads are the framework for a fine silver pendant of Lakshmi, Goddess of Beauty and Prosperity. Now aren't you worth it?

Plaid Nation my @#$$!

So my fine friends at Plaid are planning another jaunt in the Frat House on Wheels this summer.

I've enjoyed watching their previous tours - I really really enjoyed meeting them on the 2007 tour. To the delight of bloggers everywhere, I fell out of the van on live webcam. It's a small world after all - so Paul in Dallas caught it live. And laughed at me.

RJ Fenn - I'm watching you.

Fare Thee Well, Michael Jackson

The ways I'll remember Michael. A sneaked peek at The Jackson Five on the Ed Sullivan Show - way past my bedtime. OMG, the Jackson 5 Cartoon and Soul Train. Then Off The Wall and that hideous senior year dance class - I hated those girls, but oh how moving to that song made the humiliation worthwhile. Then Bad and Thriller and on and on and on. There are far more people who leave far less of a legacy of art and of good. There are far more who leave in peace, unpursued by media and venomous, hateful people. But for all the odd, the unusual and the outright strange moments, that voice, that smile, and that moment of magic. That's what I'll choose to remember.
