Having Words

Words from the last couple of days (sans commentaire):

And I'm mocking my sister now.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Attacked by spiders (or cute make-up lady.) Famous Nashville singer-songwriter Donna Mitchell preparing for a television appearance. If you had bet me any amount of money I would have said "Nope, never going to happen." Thank goodness no one threw down that bet. Ha ha ha ha ha! (And that is mocked on the wall outside my office. Ha ha ha ha ha! Go ahead, tell Mom. Ha ha ha ha ha!)

I love my Chuck Taylor All Stars as much as any former blue/green/orange haired girl, but do I have to start crying about proportions so early in the season?

You are an adorable little pixie - why do you want to stumpify?

Also, TIGHTS ARE NOT PANTS YOUNG LADY! Do you want all of Boston to see your lady parts? (That bag only covered some of your lady parts...)

Isabel didn't want to get up either.

The bunny didn't want to get out of bed this morning. I don't blame her, the prospect of looking out the window at a fresh dusting of snow was a bit much before coffee.

Have chained myself to these.

Via Verde section of Boca Raton has the best Palm trees in town. After the hurricane in 2007 the greenery all over south Florida was demolished, but Via Verde did an amazing job of replanting my favorite trees.

Can't believe I had to put on real shoes to head home today. Yes, I am an adult woman with a pouty face just now.

Spring is springing, I know, but the taste of t-shirts and flip flops was delish.

The Chapala

Organic tequila, watermelon, cilantro - eight kinds of delicious. Miami on a beautiful Saturday is pretty darn good.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Scenes of Florida

Some snaps from south Florida:

The kind of debris you find on the beach in Boca Raton:

Mine is pink, so don't blame this Bostonian... (and stifle it about the pink!)

They think differently in Miami Beach; leave that Ferrari anywhere why don't ya? (Public lot by Lincoln Road mall.)

Visited Miami Ad School!

Finally met my pal Carolyn - with her dog Lu-Lu (it's a pet friendly environment with resident bird, fish and guinea pigs.)

A reminder to young ad minds:

At Rosa Mexicano in Miami (that's Carlos making the guac under the watchful eye of Edward, who has been with Rosa Mexicano for 11 years in NYC - and created their house recipe for guacamole!)

Boston to Florida

George Washington in the Boston Common just before it started snowing as I walked in flip flops with freshly pedicured toes. Makes you want to yell (like a crazy person) "I'm not crazy, I just have freshly painted toes!"  Because that's not crazy at all.

Now arriving, Fort Lauderdale. 65 and dark. Free of snow and road salt. Yay.

Took a walk in the glorious sun to the library and post office. Not quite spring, but a far cry from the worst part of winter.  Daylight savings time on Sunday night means more sun in the evening and that is very good thing.

A piece of the Winchester Town Hall.

Pig! He's come out of hiding (under 5 feet of snow!)

Isabel the Cat lounges by the window. She's kind of good at that.

The spa thing again

***UPDATE: Liliana provided the besty best best mani and pedi I've had in Boston. I'm totally going back. The kids at the front desk kept their chatter to a minimum and at a low volume. Music annoyance level was low, treatment area spotless, everyone I encountered absolutely polite and lovely.

So I'm heading to sunny Florida for a couple of days of rest and a couple of meetings. A mani and pedi are called for as I have New England-dead-of-winter-feet right now.  As I have previously documented in another pity party post the spa people still don't seem to get the 'spa starts at the phone call.'

I'll save my review for after the visit - but I'll be open to potential awesomeness.

Fug Madness is Upon Us!

Oh thank God! The winter *appears* to be winding down, I've got a little vacay coming up and those deliriously delightful girls at Go Fug Yourself are preparing another season of Fug Madness!

What is Fug Madness you ask? Well, think of your typical bracket sporting event and substitute your "favorite" college teams with a year's worth of bad celebrity fashion. Not just your random foundation garment crisis, but full blown Bai Ling via Courtney Love channeling Alexander McQueen style fashion blindness ('it looked so good on the rack'...)

So take a trip by the Fug Girls, make your nominations known and take a gander at last year's 'winner.'

As for me TEAM SWINTON 4Ever! (And I still demand a recount!)

Madge is a contender:

So is this one:

North End ramble

After a brief stop (and a quality cocktail) at the Bond lounge at the Langham hotel in Post Office Square, the hearty adventurers set out for the authentic taste of North End pizza. How friends Scot and Sarah had never been to the original Pizzeria Regina I'll never know - so we dragged them down, waited in line (ever so briefly) and enjoyed the finest local crust in Boston. (We hadn't done a North End wander in quite some time!)

Sarah ponders the reality that we are waiting outside in line for what is sure to be 'not our typical evening' out.

Our waitress is excited to meet Scot and asks him to pass along a message to one of his co-workers. LaToya Edwards, she wants to know where you get your hair done...

Mr. & Mrs. Yount.

That is one dandy cocktail and some lovely Sauvignon Blanc on my face - typical social media terror on Tom's face. (Shot by Scot on my new iPhone.)

A walk to the center

The snow has finally (mostly) receded from the sidewalks enough to walk into the center. A bit dreary this morning, but no face-cracking winds and a few patches of blue sky here and there.

This photo is not in black and white - this is just the way it looks and feels today.

A view of the library across the pond from Main Street.

The Episcopal church at the end of my block puts these hearts in the trees every February. Every year I mean to find out why but I never do. It is a lovely thing - and was most appreciated during this awful, snowy February.

And the reason for the walk into town was to pick up this collection of DVDs at the library. Inspector Morse! I just started reading the book The Dead of Jericho and wowza - mama likey!  As a great admirer of the late Robert B. Parker's Spenser series, I'm looking forward to adding another detective to the lineup - especially one with such a sassy tongue. I'll be taking this set to the Florida for a brief respite, some heavy thinking, some light work and a little design time.

One more from New York

One more from the wayback machine - Central Park in January of 2007. Un peu sombre, mais belle.

Looking through old photos

While looking for a photo of a ring that I made two years ago for design inspiration for a new project, I rediscovered folders of photos I haven't seen in a while.  This one from Central Park taken in January of 2007 - a really weird almost 80 degree day (what global warming?) One of my favorite fountains. If I can't be near the Piazza Navona, Central Park will have to do.

Session Americana 3-1-2011

The awesomeness that is Session Americana closed their Tuesday residency at Lizard Lounge with a fantastic show that included special guests Duke Levine and Peter Wolf.

Met nice people in line. Got good karma points  for two nice fellows getting tickets to this amazing show.  That just adds an extra measure of fabulosity.

I will count this among my favorite shows, if for no reason other than adding a little Merle Haggard to the set.

Daddy would have approved.

All the pix are here for your amusement.

March, marching in

March starts off awesome with my favorites Session Americana at Lizard Lounge in Cambridge tonight. Special guests are the amazela Duke Levine and, theoretically/possibly, Peter Wolf of J. Geils Band. They kicked ass every time I saw them in January and February. This finishes up their winter residency at Lizard, so here's wishing them a fabulous show. Looking forward to the new live album!
